IL Freedom Caucus applauds federal court ruling overturning college tuition benefits for illegals

Springfield, IL – A recent federal court ruling restores common-sense to Illinois tuition policy and aligns Illinois with federal law, according to the Illinois Freedom Caucus.

A federal judge has overturned Illinois laws allowing illegal immigrants to access in-state college tuition, state financial aid, and DREAM Act scholarship benefits. The ruling makes it clear these laws violate federal immigration laws.

The Illinois Freedom Caucus is issuing the following statement:

“Illinois Democrats continue trying to violate federal law and prop up criminal illegal immigrants. What JB Pritzker and the Democratic majority in the House and the Senate have done is use the law to make political statements and hurt citizens. Thankfully, our nation is governed by the rule of law and while the legal process takes time – in the end there was no question these laws would be overturned.

Instead of using the power of government to make unconstitutional laws just to score political points, JB Pritzker and his allies in the House and the Senate should be concerned about the very real problems facing our state. Let’s focus on the priorities Illinois citizens actually care about. Let’s focus on affordability, reducing property taxes and making communities safer.

This ruling should be a wakeup call to Springfield – start caring about citizens and taxpayers more than you care about illegal immigrants.”
