From the campaign of Collin Corvett:

Where is the State Fair Day for the 47% of Voters Who Are Independent?

PALATINE, IL — As the two major political parties each get their day at the taxpayer-funded Illinois State Fair in Springfield over the next 2 days, Independent candidate for Governor Collin Corbett highlighted the exclusion of Independent voters, who now represent nearly half of the state’s electorate.

“47% of voters identify as Independent, nearly double the size of either political party. Yet our official state fair celebrates the two parties while the rest of us are ignored,” Collin said.

“This exclusion is yet another structural hurdle facing Independent and third-party candidates in Illinois.

“These candidates compete in a system rigged against everyday people running for office.

“As a result, voters are led to believe their only choices are the major party candidates—candidates nominated by less than 23% of registered voters.

Despite the snub, Collin rejected suggestions to crash Governor’s Day or Republican Day at the State Fair.

“Our campaign is about fixing our broken system, not cheap political stunts. Democrats and Republicans deserve their days at the fair. I just hope the rest of Illinois gets a day in the future. We can start by making Election Day on November 3rd Independent’s Day in Illinois.”
