Here’s what is setting me off, a Tribune column by Clarence Page;

I do not remember Clarence Page’s giving two hoots about the Democrats gerrymandering of Illinois.

Congressional map for Illinois drawn by the Democrats. The peach colored district is a Republican district with part of northern McHenry County.
Here is the gist of Page’s argument:

Now, let’s look at what gerrymandering in Illinois to one of its minorities–Republicans.
In 2024, Trump received 43.3% of the vote, yet Republicans hold only 18% of the congressional seats.
In 2022 Democratic legislative candidates won 50% of all votes cast statewide, but took 66% of seats. And in districts packed with voters from either party, there often is no competition.

Democratic Party gerrymandering of state legislative seats in the Chicago metropolitan area.
That’s what happened in state legislative districts.
It is obvious that an unprotected minority–Republicans–are being discriminated against
In Louisiana blacks have one-third of the population and 16%+ of the seats.
So Illinois Republicans are being discriminated against almost as blacks in Louisiana.
Legal Insurrection writer Mary Stauffer covered the story and summed up the ruling as follows: “In other words, the Voting Rights Act protects everyone’s right to vote. Majority, minority, Republican, Democrat, male, or female. No one gets a preference. Not a single person.”
Replace the word “white” with” Republican on this cartoon and it would accurately describe what Democrats accomplished with their legislative reapportionments.

I think this cartoon by Illinois Institute cartoonist Eric Allie is more to the point:
