Woodstock Fire News Release: One Critically Injured in Crash Involving Semi-Truck
On Monday, August 3, 2026, at 2:55 p.m., the Woodstock Fire/Rescue District and the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office responded to the intersection of U.S. Route 14 and Hartland Road in unincorporated Woodstock for a reported traffic crash with injuries.
Firefighters, paramedics, and law enforcement officers arrived to find a two-vehicle crash involving a Jeep and a semi-truck with moderate to heavy damage.
Note the sign says, “CROSS TRFFIC DOES NOT STOP.”
All occupants had exited their vehicles prior to responders’ arrival.
Paramedics immediately began providing emergency medical care after determining that three occupants of the Jeep had sustained injuries, including two with critical injuries.
Firefighters also conducted an initial assessment of the semi-truck and confirmed no safety concerns related to the vehicle or its cargo were identified.
Due to the severity of the incident, two medical helicopters were requested to the scene; however, one request was canceled because of a prolonged estimated arrival time.
An additional ambulance from the Hebron-Alden-Greenwood Fire Protection District was requested to assist with patient care and transportation.
Two patients were transported by ambulance to Northwestern Medicine McHenry Hospital, including one in serious condition and one with minor injuries.
A third patient was flown by medical helicopter to Javon Bea Hospital–Riverside in Rockford with critical, life-threatening injuries.
The driver of the semi-truck declined medical evaluation at the scene.
The intersection and surrounding roadways were closed in all directions for an extended period to allow emergency crews to safely treat patients, establish a landing zone for the medical helicopter, and investigate the crash.
The Woodstock Fire/Rescue District thanks the Hebron-Alden-Greenwood Fire Protection District for providing ambulance assistance and the Huntley Fire Protection District and Wonder Lake Fire Protection District for providing change-of-quarters coverage while crews remained committed to the incident.
The circumstances surrounding the crash remain under investigation by the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office. Any additional information regarding the cause of the crash, contributing factors, speed, seat belt use, or any potential citations should be directed to their office.

Sheriff’s Office Investigates Two-Vehicle Crash Near Woodstock
Three people were injured following a two-vehicle crash in unincorporated Woodstock Monday afternoon.
On August 3, 2026, at approximately 3:00 p.m. the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office, Hebron Alden Greenwood Fire Protection District and the Woodstock Fire/Rescue District responded to a two-vehicle crash involving injuries at the intersection US Route 14 and S Hughes Road. S Hugues Road turns into Hartland Road north of US Route 14.
Preliminary investigation indicates that a 2023 Freightliner, driven by a 52-year-old Sterling man, was traveling westbound on US Route 14.
A 2020 Jeep Wrangler, driven by an 18-year-old Rockford man with a 16-year-old passenger and 21-year-old Texas passenger, was traveling northbound on Hughes Road.
For unknown reasons, the driver of the Jeep failed to yield at the stop sign and crashed into the Freightliner.
The Jeep then exited the roadway and struck a utility pole.
The 52-year-old male driver of the Freightliner was uninjured.
The driver of the Jeep was transported via ambulance to Northwestern Medicine McHenry Hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
The 16-year-old Jeep passenger was transported via ambulance to Northwestern Medicine McHenry Hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
The 21-year-old male passenger was flown to Mercyhealth Javon Bea Hospital-Riverside in Rockford with life-threatening injuries.
The investigation is ongoing by the McHenry County Major Crash Investigation Unit.
