From a Friend of McHenry County Blog:

Collin Corbett faces an objection from Aaron Del Mar

According to Illinois State Board of Elections, Aaron Del Mar and Kristina McCloy have filed an objection to kick Collin Corbett off the ballot for governor.

Aaron Del Mar and Kristina McCloy.

Corbett is running as an independent.

Supposedly, he turned in around 37,000 signatures. Del Mar and McCloy are objecting to over 20,000 of those. Independent and new party candidates need at least 25,000, so Del Mar and McCloy would need to get over 12,000 signatures struck.

The Green Party’s slate was objected to by Katie Smith. The Greens have a candidate for all statewide positions except U.S. Senate and Illinois Attorney General.

Another candidate for governor, Gary Pierce, was objected to by three separate people. He is running with the Independence Party, which is not to be confused with candidates running as independents. The main difference is that a new party can attain ballot access and be considered a “major” party if it gets at least 5% of the vote, but independents are always independent and will always have high signature requirements.

Two U.S. Senate candidates face objections: Tyrone Muhammad, independent; Whitfield Harrington, American Center Party.

Further to the west and south of McHenry County, three independent candidates filed for U.S. Congress district 4. Two of the three independents were objected to. That means in district 4, there could be four to six candidates: At least one and possibly up to three independent candidates, a Republican, a Democrat, and a Working Class Party candidate since the WCP has ballot access there.

New Illinois Republican Party Chairman Bob Grogan filed several objections including one to Gary Pierce, one to Whitfield Harrington, and one to gubernatorial candidate Richard Mayers who allegedly only turned in one signature.
