From the Huntley Fire Protection District:

Trash Compactor Fire

At 7:04 p.m. the Huntley Fire Protection District was dispatched to a reported dumpster fire at the Amazon Distribution facility located at 11500 Freeman Rd.

Based off information gathered, the response was upgraded for additional resources to respond to the scene.

First arriving units found a small fire inside a cardboard recycling compactor that was attached to the building.

Employees on location had controlled the fire utilizing multiple fire extinguishers.

Operations at the facility were stopped and the building was evacuated.

Fire crews completed extinguishing the fire and overhauled the compactor to ensure the fire
was out.

Wonder Lake Fire Protection District was requested to the scene with an airboat to assist in removing smoke from the warehouse.

Damage was contained to the compactor.

The cause of the fire appears to be accidental and remains under investigation by Huntley Fire Investigators.

The building was turned over to facility management.
