For the past couple of years Illinois drivers have been subjected to Motor Fuel Taxes that increase every year.
The amount now is 48.3 cents per gallon, plus 6.25% state sales tax and varying local and municipal sales taxes.
And it is scheduled to increase to 49.6¢ per gallon.
It was 19 cents per gallon when Governor Pritzker took office.
Georgia, Indiana and Utah have already paused their gas txes.
Now comes President Trump saying he wants to eliminate the Federal MFT of 18.4 cents per gallon.
The savings would be about $2 per fill up.
There is a hitch, however.
Congress would have to grant its approval.
In Illinois, State Rep. Regan Deering and other House Republicans are calling for a six-month abatement of the tax to be included in next year’s budget.
