From the Lake in the Hills Police:

‘Click It or Ticket’ safety campaign underway in Lake in the Hills

LAKE IN THE HILLS, IL — There are no excuses or exceptions. Drivers and passengers on Illinois roads must buckle up because it’s the law.

And that one simple task might someday save your life.

The Lake in the Hills Police Department has joined law enforcement agencies across the state in a 12-day traffic safety campaign during the Memorial Day travel period.

The “Click It or Ticket” initiative is running now through May 26.

During the enforcement campaign, officers are specifically looking for seat belt violations, especially at night when compliance rates are lowest.

Motorists who fail to buckle up can expect to get stopped and ticketed.

“We are encouraging the community to focus on a simple task, and that is to buckle up, every trip, every time,” said Sgt. Christopher Miller, who oversees the local enforcement program. “There is never a good reason to ride without a seat belt. The one time you don’t wear it could sadly be your last time riding in a car.”

While U.S. seat belt usage increased to 93 percent in 2025, unrestrained fatalities remain a concern because they are preventable deaths.

“Getting behind the wheel is inherently a job that brings some risk,” Miller said.

“But you can take an easy step to combat that risk. Please don’t hesitate to do that. We appreciate the community’s help in keeping our local roads safer.”

he Memorial Day “Click It or Ticket” enforcement campaign is funded by federal traffic safety funds from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and administered by the Illinois Department of Transportation.
