From the Coroner:
McHenry County Coroner Dr. Michael Rein announced that the Coroner’s Office was contacted by the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office at approximately 9:30 p.m. on April 17, 2026, to investigate the death of an individual discovered inside a residence following an explosion and fire in Wonder Lake.
Due to the severity of the burns sustained, the McHenry County Coroner’s Office is unable to positively identify the individual at this time.
An autopsy was performed on April 18, 2026.
Coroner’s Office continues to work collaboratively with the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office and the Illinois State Fire Marshal’s Office during this investigation.
