The attempt to put owners of a hemp processing facility in Lakemoor in prison for up to thirty years ended with a whimper, rather than a bang.

One day before a trial about the legality of a search warrant for the plant, the McHenry County State’s Attorney’s Office decided to dismiss the case.

Assistant State’s Attorney Bill Bruce, hired three years ago after serving in the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office for twenty-two years, made the motion to nolle pross the case.
Circuit Court Judge Justin Hansen accepted the motion and dismissed the case”without objection.”
Defense Attorney Robert Hanlon said he would notify the witnesses he had subpoenaed that they did not have to show up at the courthouse tomorrow.
“I’m finally glad to see that the McHenry County State’s Attorney’s Office finally saw the wisdom in dismissing these charges and acted like a minister of justice,” Hanlon told McHenry County Blog.
When asked if he wished to comment, Bruce replied, “No, thank you.”
A $40 million lawsuit is pending in Federal Court.
