From the U.S. Attorney:

ILLEGAL ALIEN SENTENCED TO THREE YEARS IN FEDERAL PRISON FOR ILLEGALLY RE-ENTERING UNITED STATES AFTER MULTIPLE DEPORTATIONS

An illegal alien who was previously convicted of sexually assaulting a minor and attempting to possess child pornography has been sentenced to three years in federal prison for unlawfully re-entering the United States after multiple deportations.

FRANCISCO HERNANDEZ-RAMOS, a native of Mexico, was unlawfully present in the United States on Aug. 7, 2021, when he was found in Harvard, Ill., by the Harvard Police Department.

Hernandez-Ramos had been deported from the United States five times and was previously convicted of criminal sexual assault of a minor, attempted possession of child pornography, illegal entry, and illegal re-entry of a removed alien.

Hernandez-Ramos, 51, pleaded guilty in June 2026 in federal court in Rockford to one count of unlawful re-entry after removal.

On Tuesday, U.S. District Judge Iain D. Johnston sentenced Hernandez-Ramos to three years in federal prison.

As an alien in the United States illegally, Hernandez-Ramos is expected to face removal proceedings following imprisonment.

The sentence was announced by Andrew S. Boutros, United States Attorney for the Northern District of Illinois, and Frank Padula, Chicago Field Office Director of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement. The government was represented by Assistant U.S. Attorneys David M. Smith and Vincenza Tomlinson.
