Traffic Crash, Route 31 at Route 62

[Algonquin, IL] – On 10/05/26 at 1:43 p.m., the Algonquin Police Department was dispatched to Route 31 (Bypass) at the Route 62 bridge for a vehicle crash with injuries.

Upon arrival, it was necessary to shut down northbound Route 31 due to vehicles in the roadway.

The northbound roadway was shut down for the duration of the investigation, which took approximately 2 hours.

The Preliminary investigation, which included witness accounts, revealed that a yellow Toyota MR2 Spyder, driven by a 62-year-old Lake In The Hills man, was traveling northbound on Route 31 approaching the Route 62 bridge overpass.

The Toyota then lost control and struck the raised center median before striking multiple vehicles that were traveling southbound on Route 31.

The Toyota then came to rest back in the northbound lanes, in the middle of the roadway.

The 62-year-old driver was transported to Northwestern Hospital-Huntley.

Four other vehicles were involved, and one other female patient was transported to Northwestern Hospital-Huntley with minor injuries.

The injuries to the 62-year-old are serious but believed to be non-life-threatening.

The Algonquin Police Department Crash Investigations Team is still investigating the incident.
