From the State’s Attorney:
WOODSTOCK MAN SENTENCED TO 12 YEARS IN PRISON FOR MAJOR COCAINE DISTRIBUTION OFFENSE
McHenry County State’s Attorney Randi L. Freese announces that on May 18, 2026, Edgar Herrera, 36, of Woodstock, Illinois, was sentenced to 12 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections.

The sentence was imposed by the Honorable Judge Tiffany Davis after Herrera plead guilty to Possession with Intent to Deliver a Controlled Substance.
The conviction stems from a narcotics investigation conducted by the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office and the McHenry County Narcotics Task Force that began in August 2022.
Investigators identified Herrera as a suspected cocaine distributor operating within McHenry County and conducted extensive surveillance of both his residence and social media activity as part of the investigation.
The investigation culminated on August 26, 2022, when law enforcement executed a search warrant at Herrera’s residence.
During the search, deputies located Herrera inside the home along with multiple bags containing a white powdery substance that was later confirmed through laboratory testing to be cocaine.
Authorities seized approximately 640 grams of cocaine — an amount consistent with large-scale distribution.
During an interview with investigators, Herrera admitted to his involvement in the sale of cocaine.
Due to the quantity of narcotics involved, Herrera must serve a minimum of 75% of his prison sentence before being eligible for release.
McHenry County State’s Attorney Randi Freese stated: “The distribution of cocaine and other dangerous narcotics devastates our communities. This significant sentence reflects the serious threat posed by large-scale drug dealers and demonstrates our commitment to aggressively prosecuting those who profit from distributing illegal drugs in McHenry County.”
State’s Attorney Freese commends McHenry County Sheriff’s Detective Eric Lee, the McHenry County Narcotics Task Force, the Carpentersville Police Department, and the Drug Enforcement Administration for their coordinated investigation and collaborative efforts in this case.
The case was successfully prosecuted by Assistant State’s Attorney Justin Neubauer.
