Algonquin Township Road District Celebrates Successful Styrofoam Shed Kick Off Event
CRYSTAL LAKE, IL — The Algonquin Township Road District, in partnership with the Environmental Defenders of McHenry County, proudly celebrated the successful reopening and kick off of the Styrofoam Recycling Shed on Saturday, May 9.

The event welcomed numerous volunteers, residents, and state, county, and local elected officials who participated in the ribbon cutting ceremony and volunteered their time throughout the day.
The event highlighted a strong community commitment to environmental sustainability and recycling efforts within McHenry County.

By the end of the event:
• 258 vehicles participated
• Approximately 1,000 pounds of styrofoam were collected for recycling
• All collected material filled an entire semi trailer for transport and recycling

The Algonquin Township Road District is proud to host the only styrofoam recycling location currently available in McHenry County.
The Road District and the Environmental Defenders of McHenry County will continue working together to establish a weekly operating schedule for the recycling program moving forward.
The Algonquin Township Road District would also like to extend a special thank you to Cary Dunkin’ for generously donating donuts and coffee for volunteers and attendees during the event.
“We are incredibly thankful for the overwhelming support from the community, elected officials, and volunteers who helped make this event such a success,” said Danijela Sandberg.
“This program provides residents with an important recycling opportunity while helping reduce landfill waste throughout McHenry County.”
