State law says that the first installment of real estate tax bills are to be collected by June 1st.
But they also have to be mailed out thirty days before the due date.
Kane County Treasurer Chris Lauzen has done that and he has redesigned the property tax bill.
Here is his press release:
Kane County’s Property Tax Bill Just Got Its First Overhaul in Nearly 200 Years
Kane County Treasurer Chris Lauzen has announced the most significant redesign of the Kane County property tax bill in the county’s history, introducing changes intended to help residents better understand how their tax dollars are distributed and to improve how bills are delivered and tracked. The updated format reflects a broader effort by the Treasurer’s Office to bring clarity to a tax bill that many residents have long found enigmatic, cryptic, and costly.
“Let’s face it: the only way to make a property tax bill better is to make it lower,” said Treasurer Lauzen. “I can’t do that. But I can increase transparency and accountability, and that is exactly what I’m doing.”
Here’s what’s new:
- For the first time in nearly 200 years, a pie chart showing exactly where your money goes.
- A phone number next to every taxing body on your bill. Now you can actually call them.
- Paperless e-notices so you can manage your property tax bill fully online. Faster, simpler, less waste.
- A plain-English explanation of your bill, A to Z. No more guessing what any of it means.
- A postal tracking system for payments, so you always know where things stand.
