Before the McHenry County Board’s Law and Government Committee next Friday is a proposal to place an advisory referendum on the spring 2025 (March 17th) Primary Election ballot.

The question follows:

Should Illinois participate in a federal program that would provide public school, private school, and
homeschool students with privately donated funds for academic needs?

Yes/No

The Federal Scholarship Tax Credit offers a federal tax credit of up to $1,700 for individuals who donate to Scholarship Granting Organizations, thereby increasing funding for these organizations to help families pay for their children to attend the K-12 school of their choice,” the resolution authorizing the referendum states.

I figure ,whether or not it passes, Governor JB Pritzker will not give permission for participation because of the influence of the Chicago Teachers Union and the Illinois Education Association.

This is the initiative of McHenry County Board Chairman Mike Buehler.
