Huntley Fire Protection District Announces Leadership Transition as Chief Scott Ravagnie Plans Retirement and Deputy Chief Dan Wagner is Appointed Next Fire Chief
The Huntley Fire Protection District will soon undergo a leadership transition as Chief Scott Ravagnie plans to retire following more than thirty years of dedicated service.

Deputy Chief of Operations Dan Wagner has been appointed to succeed him as the district’s next Fire Chief.
Scott began his career with the district in 1992 and has played a key role in guiding the organization through decades of growth.
He rose through the ranks with unwavering dedication to the fire service and the community.
Among the most meaningful moments in his career was the opportunity to swear in his son, Alex, as a firefighter with the Huntley Fire Protection District.
As Chief, he focused on operational improvements, training, and strong partnerships.
He is set to become the first full-time member in district history to retire with thirty years of full-time service.
Under his leadership, the department launched its Cadet and Internship Program, Mobile Integrated Health initiative, and expanded Public Education eQorts.

He also oversaw the construction of Station #5 and the current Station #1 headquarters, along with the acquisition of major apparatus including the district’s first tower ladder truck, three engines, five ambulances, four stff cars, a van, and a cargo trailer.
During his time as Chief, the district swore in forty-one full-time firefighters and two administrative assistants, growing overall membership to eighty full-time members.
He secured three SAFER grants totaling three million dollars, increased daily staffing to twenty-two firefighter paramedics, and promoted three float lieutenants.
Other accomplishments include the addition of an apartment-style training tower, expanded joint training with law enforcement, the use of unified command at large-scale incidents, and improved labor-management relations.
In the district’s 2024 Annual Report, Scott shared that it has been an honor to serve as Fire Chief and to work alongside such a dedicated and passionate team.
Upon appointment, Dan Wagner will be a third-generation Fire Chief with more than thirty-five years of experience and has served as Deputy Chief of Operations for Huntley since April 2024.
His background includes prior service with the Elgin Fire Department in roles such as Battalion Chief and Director of Special Operations.
He holds a Master of Arts in Organizational Leadership with a focus in professional and executive coaching and holds multiple certifications through the State Fire Marshal and the Center for Public Safety Excellence.
Dan and Scott have worked closely over the years, and their long-standing professional relationship has made this a smooth and thoughtful transition.
Dan is a dedicated family man with a strong connection to the community he will serve as Fire Chief.

The Huntley Fire Protection District invites all community members, partners, and colleagues to attend Chief Ravagnie’s walk-out ceremony on Friday, May 23, 2025, at 4:00 p.m. at Station 1, located at 11118 Main Street in Huntley.
This ceremony will honor his decades of service and welcome Chief Wagner into his new role.
