In the Crystal Lake Library’s August-September newsletter appears a piece about retiring Library Board member Bill Weller.
He served on the Board for twenty-seven years.
It was interesting until it got super-interesting.
“At the end of the article, Weller says, ‘Despite stepping away from the board, Weller plans to continue supporting the library and hopes the future holds a new, larger building for CLPL with modern spaces, where everyone can feel welcomed and comfortable,’
“My hope for the future is that Crystal Lake will get the library building they deserve, one comparable or even better than those in many of our surrounding communities.”
Twice the Library Board has sought bond authority to build a new library.
I discovered the Board purchased all the residences from its current location to the corner of West Crystal Lake Avenue and McHenry Avenue.
That purchase was made despite the failure of the two referendums mentioned by Weller.

Now I have two reasons for liking living in Lakewood, rather than Crystal Lake:
- I won’t have to help pay for the Mayor Haig Haleblian’s future monument–whatever happens to HealthBridge. The Mayor sought to have the Park District buy it, but was shot down by the new majority.
- I .won’t have to see my propertty taxes hiked should a third referendum be successful.
