Today, the Chicago Tribune has an article taken from the New York Times on holidays dedicated to Presidents.
Left out is the name of its sponsor, Robert C. McClory, McHenry County’s congressman.
The motivation, however, is made clear:
The recreation industry wanted the change and McClory was a willing accomplice.
President Lyndon B. Johnson signed the bill on June 28, 1968, to take effect on January 1, 1971.
So, McClory changed the calendar.
