The new statewide television and digital ad continues Tracy’s “Keep It Simple” series to address a serious problem facing Illinois families: keeping the lights on without breaking the family budget.
“Energy policy shouldn’t be an ideological experiment. It should keep the lights on, keep bills affordable and keep American energy working for American families,” Tracy said. “Illinois politicians have spent years making energy more expensive and less reliable, and now families are getting stuck with the bill.”
The ad points to the loss of three Illinois power plants last year and Stratton’s support for policies that have increased costs on domestic energy production.
“You cannot shut down reliable power, increase demand and raise costs on the people producing our energy, and then act surprised when families’ utility bills go up. That is exactly the kind of backwards thinking Washington needs less of.”
As Illinois confronts growing concerns about both energy affordability and grid reliability, Tracy has called for a common-sense, all-of-the-above American energy strategy that prioritizes affordability and reliability while expanding domestic production and ensuring sufficient replacement capacity is available before existing generation is taken offline.
“We can have cleaner energy, reliable energy and affordable energy, but we are not going to get there by putting politics ahead of physics. Keep reliable power online. Produce more American energy. Stop punishing the people who produce it. And make sure Illinois families can afford to turn on the lights. It’s not complicated.”
