Willoughby Farms Park Redevelopment Officially Underway
Groundbreaking marks start of transformative park improvements supported by state and local investment
ALGONQUIN, IL – The Village of Algonquin officially marked the beginning of the Willoughby Farms Park redevelopment with a groundbreaking ceremony on Thursday, July 23. The project will transform one of Algonquin’s community parks with new amenities, improved accessibility, and expanded recreational opportunities.
Located at 2001 Wynnfield Drive, the renovated park will feature
- four new dedicated pickleball courts,
- two existing tennis courts,
- a new multi-use court, a nature-themed playground,
- an interactive fountain and gathering plaza,
- a restroom facility,
- expanded parking, i
- mproved walking paths,
- pond and shoreline enhancements, and
- other site and infrastructure improvements.
“Today’s groundbreaking reflects what can be accomplished through strong partnerships and thoughtful planning,” said Village President Debby Sosine.
Thanks to the support of our state partners and local investments, we’re preserving what residents love about Willoughby Farms Park while creating new recreational opportunities that will serve our community for decades to come.”
The approximately $4.6 million project is funded through a combination of
- a $600,000 Illinois Open Space Land Acquisition and Development (OSLAD) grant,
- $250,000 in state funding secured by State Representative Suzanne Ness (66th District),
- approximately $1.25 million in contributions from the Algonquin Meadows development, and additional Village funding.
