Residential Structure Fire on North Hale Street
On Friday, July 10, 2026, at 9:10 a.m., the Marengo Fire & Rescue Districts were dispatched to the 1100 block of N. Hale Street in Marengo for a reported inside smoke investigation.
Upon arrival, firefighters observed light smoke showing from a single-story residence, prompting the incident to be upgraded to a Working Structure Fire response.
Initial crews entered the home and encountered moderate smoke conditions throughout the residence.
Firefighters continued their investigation and located an active fire within the attic space.
Crews quickly extinguished the bulk of the fire; however, additional hidden fire and hot spots remained within the attic, requiring firefighters to open portions of ceiling to complete extinguishment.
The fire was declared under control within approximately 25 minutes.
The home sustained heavy damage to the attic, along with smoke and water damage throughout the residence.
As a result, the home has been deemed uninhabitable until repairs can be completed.
The home’s sole occupant, an adult male who was inside at the time of the incident, was able to safely evacuate and was not injured.
He is receiving temporary lodging and assistance from friends.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Marengo Fire & Rescue Districts.
