Natural Gas Main Incident at Daybreak Ridge and Riverwoods Drive

On Friday, July 10, 2026, at 12:42 p.m., emergency crews responded to the area of Daybreak Ridge and Riverwoods Drive in Woodstock after a contractor struck a natural gas main during excavation work.

Upon arrival, firefighters confirmed a natural gas main had been struck at the corner of the intersection.

A loud hissing sound was heard, and natural gas was visibly venting from the excavation.

Crews established a safety perimeter while working with Woodstock police officers to secure the area.

As a precaution, residents from 17 surrounding homes were initially evacuated.

During the response, firefighters and Nicor Gas crews conducted atmospheric monitoring throughout the affected area.

As of 3:15 p.m., residents were allowed to return to their homes after conditions indicated it was appropriate to lift the evacuation.

Monitoring continued as Nicor Gas crews worked to repair the damaged gas main.

The home located nearest the damaged gas main remains evacuated until repairs to the line are complete.

There have been no reports of injuries.

The Woodstock Fire/Rescue District appreciates the quick response and coordination provided by Nicor Gas and the Woodstock Police Department throughout the incident.

Nicor Gas crews are expected to remain on scene for several hours to complete repairs.

Fire crews will remain on scene until the gas line has been shut off, and motorists should expect road closures in the immediate area throughout the repair process.
