IL Freedom Caucus: Democrats Once Again Pass State’s Largest Budget At Midnight With No Relief To Working Families
Springfield, IL – Families struggling to pay bills and meet the demands of rising costs once again will have no relief in the partisan budget Democrats pushed through at midnight on the final day of session, according to the Illinois Freedom Caucus.
The Democrats passed a massive $56 Billion budget that not only fails to lower taxes – but raises them instead – creating roughly $800 Million in added revenue.
The budget includes new taxes on
- social media,
- digital advertising,
- additional pay raises for politicians,
- millions for politically connected non-governmental organizations conducting liberal activities, and
- more funding for illegal immigrants.
In short, this budget is a disgrace.
- $110 Million in Illegal Immigrant Healthcare
- $40 Million for Illegal Immigrant Welcome Centers
- $Hundreds of Millions in Woke NGO Grants, Likely Rampant with Minnesota-Style Fraud
- $6 Million for the Failed Commission on Equity and Inclusion
- $2 Million to the Illinois Coalition for Immigrant and Refugee Rights$18 Million for Illinois’ Abortion Hotline Services
- $1 million allocated to the National Immigrant Justice Center
And more.
“The message being sent to working families is clear – their needs take a back seat to the Democrats’ far left agenda,” said State Rep. Chris Miller (R-Hindsboro).
“Asking people and businesses to pay more in taxes just so Democrats can fund programs for illegals is wrong.
“The State of Illinois has no business funding these programs, especially at a time when the state can barely pay its bills.”
Clearly, Illinois has learned nothing from the NGO fraud that has been uncovered in Minnesota.
“We would not even have to discuss raising taxes if we simply stopped throwing money at fraudulent non-governmental organizations,” said Jed Davis (R-Newark).
“Even if the state were flush with cash, it would still be unwise to continue to pour money into these organizations.
“The state has failed to consider any meaningful oversight to how NGOs are spending state dollars, and that is completely unacceptable.”
State Senator Andrew Chesney (R-Freeport) said the lack of transparency in the budget process should concern every Illinois resident.
“The Democrats treat the budget as their own personal piggy bank,” Chesney said.
“They negotiate in secret and then give rank and file lawmakers no time to review the budget before being asked to vote on it.
“This is your money they are spending.
“These negotiations should not take place behind closed doors.
“Less than 1 day to read a 6,000-page budget package is beyond reproach, and it’s a slap in the face to the taxpayers we represent.”
