On the agenda of the next Lake in the Hills Village Board meeting is a proposal for a solar farm on Pingrey Road.

The proposal:
“Evan Carlson of Enterprise Energy proposes to develop a 5 megawatt (MW) solar energy facility with accessory battery storage systems on land located on the east side of Pyott Road, approximately 775 feet north of the intersection of Pyott Road and Imhoff Drive. The property includes two adjacent parcels totaling 58.6 acres that were previously operated as a quarry.
“Enterprise Energy is owned by a company named CarlSun1 LLC, who has a contract to purchase the 58.6 acres and plans to develop a facility to be comprised of rows of photovoltaic (PV) cell panels mounted on posts set into the ground (solar arrays) that tilt to follow the daily path of sunlight…
“the project includes batteries co-located with the solar panels and an accessory standalone 5 MW battery energy storage system that will store electricity during periods of low demand and discharge electricity to the grid during periods of high demand…”
“The solar arrays will tilt over a 104-degree range of motion to follow the daily path of sunlight, and the height of the arrays will not exceed 10 feet…
“A 5 MW solar array like this one will increase the assessed value by $1,090,000…
“A 5 MW facility will produce 12,500,000 KWh of electricity per year.
The Planning and Zoning Commission supported the proposal with a 6-0 vote.
Fire protection will be provided by Crystal Lake.
Decommissioning after twenty-five years is in the proposal.
A minimum of $1,000,000 in liability coverage for damage to rented property, plus excess liability coverage of $1,000,000 per occurrence.
