It may seem strange that the McHenry County Board makes appointments to some local fire protection districts.
And it is.
In 1970, a new Illinois State Constitution was approved in a referedum.
It stripped appointment power from judges, but didn’t say who would replace them.
Back in 1973 when I was a freshman State Representatives, I sponsored a bill to “solve” that problem.
So, who would appoint trustees of fire protection districts.
Since their boundaries did not coincide with those of any other government, all I could come up with was county boards. And, if a FPD overlapped into another county, I believe there was a proportional vote given both county boards.
Tuesday, the McHenry County Board will approved the following appointments:
- McHenry Township Fire Protection District – Joseph Doherty – Term to Expire 04/30/2029
- McHenry Township Fire Protection District – Robert Meyer – Term to Expire 04/30/2029
