From the McHenry Township Fire Protection District:

4400 Block Parkway Ave Fire

On April 9th, 2026, at approximately 02:20 a.m., the McHenry Township Fire Protection District (MTFPD) responded to a reported structure fire in the 4400 block of W. Parkway Avenue in McHenry.

Crews arrived within four minutes to find a detached garage fully involved with fire and extending to the residence, a nearby shed, and a neighboring garage.

One occupant was able to escape the home prior to the arrival of fire crews.

Companies initiated an aggressive fire attack, deploying multiple handlines to all involved structures.

Primary and secondary searches were completed, and no additional occupants were located.

There were no reported injuries to civilians or firefighters.

The fire was brought under control in approximately 15 minutes, and crews remained on scene to
extinguish hot spots and conduct overhaul.

The residence was deemed uninhabitable and the American Red Cross is assisting the occupant.

The MTFPD received assistance, either on scene or at our fire stations, from the Cary, Crystal Lake, Fox Lake, Nunda, Richmond, Round Lake, Spring Grove, Wauconda, and Wonder Lake fire departments.

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation by MTFPD investigators.
