McHenry County Division of Transportation Monitors Rising

WOODSTOCK, Ill. – The McHenry County Division of Transportation (MCDOT) is closely monitoring County Roadways as rising water levels begin to encroach on the pavement.

Water has begun encroaching onto segments of River Road near Moraine Hills State Park, and drivers may encounter standing water near the pavement edges.

With watersheds expected to crest on April 22nd, the County is continuously evaluating roadway conditions and is prepared to take steps to ensure the safety of the motoring public.

“Our staff has placed signage to alert drivers to current road conditions,” said Scott Hennings, the Assistant Director of Transportation.

“At this point, we advise that the public proceed with caution, but we are prepared to close this section of River Road if necessary.

Regardless of their route, drivers should proceed slowly and only continue if they can safely navigate the conditions.”

Although significant rainfall in the area is not expected over the next few days, upstream runoff will continue leading to higher water levels throughout the County.

The MCDOT remains focused on maintaining the safety of its public roadways and will continue to
monitor the situation closely.

Motorists should expect delays, allow for extra travel time, and follow all posted closure signs.
