Suspect identified in fatal hit-and-run crash
The McHenry County Sheriff’s Office has identified a suspect in a fatal hit-and-run crash, which occurred on July 2, in unincorporated Crystal Lake.
The crash, which left a 15-year-old Crystal Lake boy dead, occurred at approximately 9:34 p.m. after a vehicle struck the child riding his bicycle and fled the scene.
On the evening of July 4, the Woodstock Police Department responded to a death investigation at a residence in Woodstock.
At the scene, officers located a vehicle matching the description of the one involved in the crash.
Woodstock officers promptly notified the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office, who determined that the vehicle was the suspected involved vehicle.
After further investigation, the deceased individual was identified as the suspect in the fatal hit-and-run crash.
No one else is believed to be involved and the Sheriff’s Office is no longer searching for additional suspects.
The circumstances surrounding the death are being investigated by the Woodstock Police Department and the McHenry County Coroner’s Office.

UPDATE FROM THE CORONER:
McHenry County Coroner, Dr. Michael Rein, announced that his office was contacted on July 4, 2025, around 5:30 pm by Woodstock Police Department to investigate the death of Tyler Kluesener, age 31 of Woodstock.
Mr. Kluesener was identified as the suspect by McHenry County Sheriff, as the person involved in the hit and run involving a minor in Crystal Lake on July 2, 2025.
An autopsy was performed on July 7, 2025. Toxicology is currently pending.
This is an ongoing investigation and no other information is available at this time.
The Coroner’s Office is continuing to work collaboratively with Woodstock Police Department and McHenry County Sheriff’s Office during this investigation.
