McHenry County Board member John Hammarand blew the whistle on the Board’s overtaxation for its Valley Hi Nursing home.

Literally millions of dollars were accumulated because the Board listened to staff who issued the “use it (taxing authority allowed under the Tax Cap) or lose it” warning.

The Board decided to use what was left over after Board Chairman Jack Franks made inequitable distributions of part of the surplus.

McHenry County included the following in Chairman Mike Buehler’s monthly email:

After years of planning and hard work, the Heart of the Valley memory care wing at Valley Hi Nursing & Rehabilitation is open!

County Board members, Valley Hi employees, and other guests cut the ribbon on Monday for the state-of-the-art, 21-bed facility that will help meet the growing need for senior memory care in McHenry County and will complement, not compete with, private facilities.

Valley Hi has a long and distinguished history of providing senior care for McHenry County seniors, and this rich legacy will continue and grow with the opening of Heart of the Valley.
