McHENRY COUNTY STATE’S ATTORNEY’S OFFICE AWARDED GRANT TO SUPPORT DOMESTIC VIOLENCE PROSECUTION
McHenry County State’s Attorney’s Office announces that it was awarded $147,986.12 under the Edward Byrne Justice Assistance Grant for the Comprehensive Law Enforcement Response to Violent Crime program.
funds will be available throughout 2025 and may be reapplied for in the fall.
The grant will assist in funding the salaries of two domestic violence prosecutors, a victim witness coordinator, and a domestic violence deferred prosecution program coordinator.
McHenry County State’s Attorney Randi Freese said she was, “grateful to receive these funds that will allow the office to continue to take a targeted approach to the social ill of domestic violence.”
The McHenry County State’s Attorney’s Office employs two full-time attorneys who work exclusively on domestic violence cases.
The office employs three victim witness coordinators who provide essential services to victims of violent crime.
Ms. Freese noted that she is “proud to stand with, and fight for, the victims of domestic abuse.”
She adds,
“The grant that we obtained is for our misdemeanor domestic violence courtroom.
“There are felony domestic violence cases (domestic battery subsequent offense, aggravated domestic battery, violation of an order of protection subsequent offense) but those are not a part of the grant we received.
“I do not have statistics regarding how many felony domestic violence cases we have readily available.
“Here are the totals regarding how many misdemeanor domestic battery charges we had for the last few years:

“We also prosecute misdemeanor violation of order of protection charges in the courtroom that is covered by the grant. I do not have statistics for how many of those cases we’ve had each respective year readily available.”
