LaHood Hosts Reception for 16th District Service Academy Appointees
Peoria, IL – Congressman Darin LaHood (IL-16) hosted a reception in his Peoria office to recognize students from Illinois’ 16th Congressional District who were selected to attend one of our nation’s military service academies.
“One of the greatest privileges I have is nominating exceptional students to our nation’s prestigious military service academies,”said Rep. LaHood.

“I was honored to host and recognize this year’s 16th District appointees and their families. I know these appointees will go on to serve our nation honorably and selflessly, and I wish them much success in this next chapter of their lives. Congratulations to this outstanding group!”
Background:
Each year, Rep. LaHood nominates students from Illinois’ 16th Congressional District to attend the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, U.S. Naval Academy, U.S. Air Force Academy, and U.S. Merchant Marine Academy. Nominees completed a rigorous application process and interviews conducted by a selection panel of veterans and central and northwestern Illinois community leaders. This year, seven nominated students from the 16th District were selected by one of these academies.

- Nate Steffen, Lexington – U.S. Military Academy
- Austin Pearce, Geneseo – U.S. Military Academy
- Carter Lundeen, Minooka – U.S. Military Academy
- Brennan Bjorling, Morton – U.S. Naval Academy
- Andrew Stone, Metamora – U.S. Naval Academy
- Liam Taylor, Bloomington – U.S. Air Force Academy
