Taking a look at the McHenry County Board’s Law and Government/Liquor Committee agenda for this month, I found an intriguing bit of information.

John Kimmel, whom I’ve known as the Marengo Fire Protection and Rescue District Chief is also the Chief of the Harvard Fire Protection District.

Kimmel has told me that discussions are in process which may lead to a merger of the Marengo and Union Fire Protection Districts.

For reasons now apparently considered irrelevant Marengo has both a Fire Protection District and a Rescue Squad District, both of which are now administrated by Kimmel.

Their services have not been officially merged as is the case elsewhere in McHenry County, but whatever dispute led to separate governmental districts has disappeared.

Besides having Kimmel as leader of both, they share the same website.

This type of shared leadership first evidenced itself when the Richmond High School District and the Nippersink Grade School District began sharing the same Superintendent.

Government consolidation has been a long-time goal of Wonder Lake’s Bob Anderson.

It appears that it may be occurring incrementally and voluntarily.
