Two-Vehicle Crash on Route 176 

On Thursday, October 24, 2024, at 7:06 a.m., the Nunda Rural Fire Protection District responded to a report of a head-on crash with entrapment near Route 176 and Nish Road.

Upon arrival, crews located a serious crash involving a small SUV and a landscaper truck pulling a trailer, just east of the intersection.

Firefighters worked for nearly 20 minutes to extricate the adult male driver of the SUV, who was trapped inside the vehicle.

Once freed, the driver was airlifted to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville with serious injuries.

The driver of the truck sustained minor injuries and was transported to Northwestern Medicine McHenry Hospital for further evaluation.

The roadway remained closed in both directions for nearly two hours.

The Nunda Rural Fire Protection District would like to thank the Cary Fire Protection District, Wauconda Fire District, and McHenry Township Fire Protection District for their assistance at the scene.

The McHenry County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the crash and any additional questions pertaining to the investigation (cause, fault, seat-belt use, speeds, etc.) should be referred to them.
