From the Cary Fire Protection District:

Emergency Response to Submerged Vehicle in Cary

On Monday, July 28, 2025, at 7:40 p.m., the Cary Fire Protection District, along with mutual aid companies, responded to the area of Detroit Street just north of Crystal Woods Circle in Cary for a reported vehicle submerged in a pond.

Crews arrived within minutes and located a vehicle that had left the roadway, traveled down an embankment, and entered the water.

The vehicle was fully submerged, and at the time of arrival, it was unknown whether it was occupied.

Rescue divers entered the pond and conducted a systematic search, checking the front and rear seats as well as the trunk compartment.

The vehicle was confirmed to be unoccupied.

The driver and any possible occupants were not present at the scene, and as of 9:00 p.m., had not been located despite a check of the registered address.

At that time, the incident was upgraded through the Mutual Aid Box Alarm System (MABAS) to request sonar equipment and additional personnel.

The use of sonar technology and drone resources was done out of an abundance of caution and as part of due diligence to ensure no one was submerged in the pond.

Searches of the water continued, with sonar resources arriving a short time later to assist with further scanning of the body of water.

The vehicle was removed from the water at approximately 11:00 p.m., and remaining crews cleared the scene shortly after 11:30 p.m.

No driver or occupants have been located.

The investigation has been turned over to the Cary Police Department. Any questions regarding the cause of the crash, driver involvement, or further follow-up should be directed to their office.

The Cary Fire Protection District thanks all responding agencies for their assistance.
