I want to give you a quick but important update on a bill moving through Springfield that is disastrous for the suburbs.
Lawmakers just unveiled a new plan for regional transit—and it’s being sold as reform. But here’s the truth: It hands control of our entire transit system to Mayor Brandon Johnson and the City of Chicago, and it forces suburban taxpayers to foot the bill.
This plan gives Chicago and Cook County majority control of a new transit board, with the power to make decisions about fares, service cuts, and massive new tax increases—all with no meaningful input from the suburbs.
And what do we get in return? Less control, higher taxes, and no real seat at the table.
Mayor Johnson and his allies would be calling the shots on decisions that affect how we get to work, how our communities are funded, and how much our families pay.
They decide. We pay.
That’s not regional cooperation—it’s a power grab. And it’s wrong.
I’ve always supported smart investment in transit that works for the entire region—but I’ll never support a plan that gives Brandon Johnson the power, while silencing the suburban voices I was elected to represent.
This is nothing more than a billion-dollar bailout for Chicago, paid for by you and your neighbors.
I’m a hard no on this proposal.
If you agree, please sign my petition. Let’s send a clear message: no blank checks, no power grabs—no bailout for Brandon Johnson on the backs of suburban taxpayers.
