Water Rescue

The McHenry Township Fire Protection District (MTFPD) was dispatched to the 1400 block of
N. River Rd in the City of McHenry for a water rescue.

It was reported that two individuals were in the Fox River and unable to get out. MTFPD arrived within 4 minutes and confirmed two adult males were still in the Fox River clinging to a pier.

MTFPD rescue personnel immediately entered the water in cold water rescue gear and removed both patients.

One patient was immediately taken to a waiting ambulance and treated for hypothermia. He was transported to Northwestern Hospital – McHenry in good condition.

The second patient refused treatment or transport.

The investigation revealed one person accidentally fell from a pier into the water.

The second person jumped into the water to try and assist him.

Due to the waters low temperature neither person was able to get
out of the river.
