Two-Vehicle Crash with Critical Injuries on West Coral Road
On Thursday, October 1, 2026, at 2:45 p.m., the Marengo Fire & Rescue Districts, Marengo Police Department, and McHenry County Sheriff’s Office responded to the intersection of Maple Street and West Coral Road in unincorporated Marengo for a reported motor vehicle crash with injuries.

Crews arrived and located a serious two-vehicle crash involving a passenger vehicle and a small semi-truck.

The passenger vehicle had rolled over, and both drivers were trapped inside their respective vehicles.

Due to the extent of the damage and severity of the injuries, additional personnel and resources were requested from the Huntley Fire Protection District, Union Fire Protection District, and Woodstock Fire/Rescue District.

Two medical helicopters were requested to respond but were unable to fly due to inclement weather.
Firefighters worked to extricate both drivers, who were the sole occupants of their respective vehicles.

Both adult patients were transported by ambulance to Javon Bea Hospital—Riverside in Rockford with critical, life-threatening injuries.
The roadway was closed in all directions for several hours while emergency crews operated at the scene and the crash was investigated.
The roadway reopened shortly before 8:30 p.m.
The McHenry County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash. Any questions regarding the cause of the crash, contributing factors, seat belt use, citations, or other details related to the investigation should be directed to the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office.
