Firefighters Respond to Overnight House Fire
On Friday, August 14, 2026, at 1:23 a.m., the Woodstock Fire/Rescue District was dispatched to the 600 block of Clay Street in Woodstock for a reported house fire.
Firefighters arrived within minutes and observed smoke and fire showing from a small two-story home.
The incident was promptly upgraded to a working structure response, bringing additional resources to the scene and change-of-quarters companies to provide coverage within the district.
Firefighters entered the home and encountered heavy fire on the first floor, along with a significant amount of household contents that contributed to the fire conditions and limited access within portions of the home.
Crews advanced hose lines into the residence while additional firefighters searched the home and checked for extension of the fire into surrounding rooms and the second floor.
The fire was brought under control within approximately 20 minutes, with the majority of the fire damage contained to a room on the first floor.
The remainder of the home sustained smoke and significant water damage as a result of the fire and firefighting efforts.
No one was home at the time of the fire, and no pets were involved.
The home is considered uninhabitable until repairs can be made. One resident was displaced but did not require assistance with temporary housing.
One firefighter was medically evaluated at the scene for a non-injury-related concern and was transported to a local hospital for further evaluation.
No injuries were reported as a result of the fire.
Crews remained on the scene for overhaul and investigation, with the final units clearing shortly before 4:00 a.m.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Woodstock Fire/Rescue District.
