Before discussion of who should be appointed to rule the McHenry Township and Harvard Fire Protection Districts, Brian Sager, whole was defeated in the GOP primary, asked that the Committee go into Executive Session.

Pam Althoff, chairing the Committee, was uncomfortable with doing so.

A decision was made to seek advice from the State’s Attorney’s Office and the appointment selection was put aside.

Here is what is in theminutes:

“After receiving additional guidance, Chair Althoff stated that the general consensus was that the statute does not permit a public body to enter executive session for appointments to other commissions or boards. Although no formal opinion was received from the State’s Attorney’s Office, it was noted that the opinion shared by administration staff was that the matter fell into a legal gray area. Chair Althoff stated that she was uncomfortable proceeding into executive session under those circumstances and directed that deliberations be conducted in open session.”

And they were.

The selectees recommended by the McHenry County Board Law and Government Committee are

McHenry Township Fire Protection District

  • Joseph Doherty
  • Robert Meyer

Harvard Fire Protection District

  • Paul Hildret
  • Brian Knop

By law the appointments are made by the County Board Chairman.

Mike Buehler has requested recommendations from relevant committees.
