The following language is contained in the megaprojects bill that allow Prairie Grove to cut a sweetheart deal with the proposed $600 million lithium battery farm:
“No state or local elected official may knowingly accept from an employee or agent of a company a free or discounted ticket to a professional sporting event held at a sports stadium that is constructed as part of a megaproject, unless the free or discounted ticket is given or sold as part of a promotion generally available to the public on the same terms as generally available to the public.”
Back in the 1970’s Arlington Park gave some passes to any legislator who asked for them.
I remember Rockford Democrat Zeke Giorgi yold me it was the most popular reason people visited his legislative office.
After some newspaper publicity (not necessarily about Zeke), the practice was stopped.
