From the State’s Attorney:

MAN ACCUSED OF SEXUALLY ASSAULTING NINE-YEAR-OLD CHILD FOR LAST THREE YEARS ORDERED DETAINED

McHenry County State’s Attorney Randi Freese announced today that the Honorable Judge Cynthia Lamb has granted the State’s petition to deny pretrial release for Juan Miramontes, 41, of Crystal Lake, Illinois.

Miramontes appeared in Initial Appearance Court on April 14, 2026, where he was formally charged with four counts of Predatory Criminal Sexual Assault, Class X felonies, and one count of Possession of a Weapon by a Felon, a Class 3 felony.

At today’s hearing, prosecutors presented evidence alleging that Miramontes sexually assaulted a 9-year-old victim over a period of approximately three years.

According to the evidence, the assaults occurred multiple times at Miramontes’ residence in Crystal Lake. Investigators also executed a search of the residence, during which they recovered a Remington shotgun concealed beneath Miramontes’ bed.

As a previously convicted felon—having been sentenced in 2010 to twelve years in the Illinois Department of Corrections for Home Invasion—Miramontes is legally prohibited from possessing firearms.

After reviewing the evidence, the Court found it to be clear and convincing that Miramontes committed the alleged offenses.

The Court further determined that he poses a real and present threat to the safety of the community and that no condition or combination of conditions could mitigate that risk, ordering that he remain detained pending trial.

State’s Attorney Randi Freese underscored the gravity of the allegations and the importance of safeguarding vulnerable individuals. “

These are horrific allegations involving the prolonged abuse of a young child,” Freese stated.

“Given the nature of these charges and the defendant’s criminal history, the Court’s decision reflects the serious danger he poses. Our office remains committed to holding offenders accountable and protecting the children and families of McHenry County.”

The case remains under active prosecution. Due to the sensitive nature of the allegations and to protect the identity of the victim, no additional details will be released at this time.

Miramontes is scheduled to appear in court on April 28, 2026, in Courtroom 304.

Members of the public are reminded that a complaint contains only allegations and is not evidence of guilt. The defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
