LITH police announce results of St. Patrick’s Day traffic safety enforcement

LAKE IN THE HILLS, IL — The Lake in the Hills Police Department made two arrests and issued a total of 37 citations during the statewide St. Patrick’s Day traffic safety campaign that ran March 13-23.

Officers were especially vigilant about impaired driving involving the use of alcohol, cannabis and other drugs, including prescription medications that can affect driving.

One arrest was made for driving under the influence while the other arrest was for driving on a suspended license.

The citations issued over 10 days included

  • 12 for speeding;
  • 7 for operating an uninsured motor vehicle;
  • 5 for failure to wear a seat belt;
  • 4 for an expired registration;
  • 3 for disregarding a traffic control device;
  • 2 for operating a motor vehicle while using an electronic communication device;
  • 1 for failure to signal; and
  • 1 for transporting excess passengers.

An additional person was arrested on three outstanding warrants.

“We strongly enforce traffic laws to save lives and help make the streets of Lake in the Hills a safe place to be,” said Sgt. Christopher Miller, who oversees the local enforcement program.

“Driving impaired is dangerous and puts everyone at risk. We have a zero-tolerance approach to it.”

The department joined forces with the Illinois State Police and Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) in the “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” and “Drive High, Get a DUI” enforcement campaign.

The safety effort was funded by a federal highway safety grant administered by IDOT.

“Always plan ahead for a safe ride home,” Miller said. “If you are out drinking, there’s no reason not to designate a sober driver or use a ride service. Never drive impaired.”
