STATE’S ATTORNEY SECURES 20-YEAR PRISON SENTENCE FOR ANTIOCH MAN FOLLOWING ARMED VIOLENCE, DRUG-RELATED CONVICTIONS

McHenry County State’s Attorney Randi L. Freese announced that on March 20, 2025, John T. Boland, 41, of Antioch, Illinois, was sentenced to 20 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections for the offenses of-

  • Armed Violence and
  • Unlawful Possession of Methamphetamine.

The sentence was imposed by the Honorable Judge Tiffany Davis.

In January of 2026, Boland was found guilty of the charges following a three-day jury trial.

Evidence presented at trial established that on May 3, 2024, Boland—who was on supervised release for another pending criminal charge—was traveling through the City of McHenry in possession of significant quantities of cocaine and methamphetamine when he was stopped by officers with the McHenry City Police Department.

During the traffic stop, officers discovered that Boland was also unlawfully carrying a concealed firearm on his person.

State’s Attorney Freese emphasized the seriousness of the offenses and the importance of removing armed offenders from the community.

“The combination of illegal drugs and firearms poses a significant threat to public safety, and we will continue to work closely with our law enforcement partners to ensure those who engage in this dangerous conduct are brought to justice,” Freese said.

State’s Attorney Freese commended the coordinated efforts of the City of McHenry Police Department, Grayslake Police Department, McHenry County Sheriff’s Office, and the Lake County Sheriff’s Office for their collaborative efforts in this investigation and their ongoing commitment to public safety.

She also recognized the critical contributions of forensic scientists Gina Havlik and Deepthi Nori of the Northern Illinois Regional Crime Lab (NIRCL) for their expert analysis and testimony.

This case was successfully prosecuted at trial by Assistant State’s Attorneys Shelby Page and Justin Neubauer.
