With Democrat Briand Meyers toss off the November ballot State Rep. Steve Reick is assured of re-election.

The Democrats really don’t like Reick, partially because of his attacking them at the swearing-in ceremony and, I would image his cogent evisceration of extreme Democratic Party bills.

Unlike in local partisan contests, political parties cannot nominate a candidate for the legislature through a caucus.

That means Reick is home free.

The reason for Meyers removal is the non-payment of a fine levied by the Illinois State Board of Elections for filing his second finance discloser statement late.

He finally paid the fine, but not until one day after the deadline.
