Scott Hartman,, the former Deputy Administrator for McHenry County, steps into the role played by his former boss Peter Austin, who has retired.

The County email offers this perspective:

After 20 years as McHenry County Administrator, today is Peter Austin’s last day on the job.

During his two decades holding McHenry County Government’s top job, he guided a long list of projects to completion – the widening of Randall and Rakow roads, the new Valley Hi Nursing Home and its Heart of the Valley memory care wing, and the McHenry County Regional Training Center, just to name a handful. At the same time, McHenry County achieved a top Aaa+ bond rating and became debt-free.

Peter and his wife, Jen, intend to continue living in McHenry County, traveling and visiting their two grown sons. Enjoy your retirement, Peter – you’ve more than earned it.

The transition to our new county leadership will be seamless. Scott Hartman, who has served for 11 years as Deputy County Administrator, will take over after being selected in September by a unanimous vote of the County Board. Likewise, Director of Public Affairs Alicia Schueller, who started working in County Administration in 2019, will be promoted to deputy. Congratulations to both!
