From the Huntley Fire Protection District:

Ashley Street House Fire

On Monday, December 1, 2025, at 10:39am, the Huntley Fire Protection District responded to the 10100 block of Ashley Street in Huntley for a reported house fire.

While crews were responding, additional information from 911 callers indicated that flames were visible, prompting an upgrade to a working fire response.

Firefighters arrived and found heavy smoke and flames coming from the rear of a two-story home.

Crews advanced hose lines to the back yard and extinguished a large portion of the fire from the exterior.

Additional personnel entered the residence to extinguish the remaining fire.

During the initial operations, firefighters rescued two dogs from inside the home.

A cat was later located during overhaul efforts, and a second cat remains missing.

The home sustained heavy fire, smoke and water damage and is considered uninhabitable until extensive repairs are made.

Nobody was home at the time of the fire and no injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Huntley Fire Protection District.

As the community enters the holiday season, the Huntley Fire Protection District encourages residents to take extra care with holiday lights and open flames. Inspect decorative lighting for damaged cords or broken bulbs, avoid overloading outlets, and turn lights off when leaving the home or going to bed. Keep candles and other open flames away from decorations and anything that can burn.

Taking a few simple precautions can help reduce the risk of fires in the home during this busy time of year.
