LESS THAN YEAR FROM THE ELECTION, GOVERNOR PRITZKER APPROVAL RATING 52.2%

Governor’s Approval up a Tick from June in Illinois Poll

In the latest official independent statewide poll of Illinois voters, less than a year from the 2026 general election, Governor JB Pritzker’s approval rating among Illinois voters for a third term stands at 52.2%.

That’s a slight increase from his 51.9%. The percentage of respondents who disapprove of the Governor’s performance is also up slightly to 40.9%, from 40.3%.

The percentage of voters who say Pritzker deserves a third term in office is 52.2%, mirroring his approval rating, according to the poll.

According to the poll, the Governor’s approval rating continues to lag slightly under the percentage of votes he won in his election campaigns in 2018 (54.5%) and 2022 (54.9%) against Republican candidates former Governor Bruce Rauner and former State Senator Darren Bailey, respectively.

In hypothetical head-to-head matchups with potential GOP general election candidates, the Governor has a comfortable lead, although all of the Republican candidates with the exception of Bailey have little name recognition at this point among likely general election voters.

The results are part of the latest Illinois Poll, conducted November 20-24th.

It is a semi-monthly survey conducted since 2001 by Victory Research, an independent polling company based in Chicago.

The poll of 1208 likely Illinois general election voters has a margin of error of 2.82% and was conducted by live callers. Respondents answered using land lines (341) and cell phones (857). www.politicsillinois.com @ILpollster.

The poll does identify some potential trouble areas ahead for the second-term Governor.

When asked if Illinois is going in the right direction or wrong direction, nearly two-fifths (59.5%) said they are “pretty seriously off on the wrong track.”

In addition, when voters were asked to identify the most important problem facing Illinois (what the next Governor should focus on the most), more than two-thirds answered “crime (35.3%)” or “high taxes (30.2%).”

When voters were asked to rate the Governor’s performance on the top five issues identified in the poll as “good” or “bad,” Pritzker’s approval is not above 50% on any of them.

On three of the top four issues,

  • crime (34.1%-58.9%),
  • taxes (32.0%-61.5%), and
  • immigrant issues (36.3%-57.0%),

significantly more than 50% of voters disapprove of Pritzker’s performance.

On the other two top issues,

  • education (44.0-41.2), and
  • state spending (45.1%-36.8%),

the Governor has a plurality of support, but not over 50%.

Only on the issue of “building roads/infrastructure” does Pritzker register over 50% approval (53.7%-25.7%).
