McHenry County State’s Attorney Randi Freese announced today that the Honorable Judge Justin Hansen granted the State’s motion to deny pretrial release for Michael Mealy, 36, of Elgin, Illinois.

Mealy appeared in Initial Appearance Court on November 25, 2025, charged with Unlawful Possession with the Intent to Deliver a Controlled Substance, a class X felony, and Unlawful Possession of a Controlled Substance, a class 1 felony.
Evidence was presented in court this afternoon that, on or about November 24, 2025, deputies with the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office contacted Mealy.
Mealy initially provided a false name to the deputies due to an active warrant for his arrest out of Wisconsin.
Mealy was taken into custody and he was searched incident to the arrest. During the search,
Mealy was found to be in possession of approximately 32.3 grams of a substance that presumptively tested positive for cocaine in a variety of weights and packaging, a digital scale with white powder residue, and United States Currency.
At the hearing on the State’s Petition to Deny Pretrial Release, Judge Hansen found that there were no conditions or combinations of conditions that the court could impose to keep the community safe.
Mealy’s next court appearance is scheduled for December 2, 2025, in courtroom 302.
