My notes on the County Board’s Thursday tax levy meeting for Woodstock’s Paul Thomas’ views on whether or how much real estate taxes should be increased were inadequate, so I reached out for more information to supplement my article below:
Here is what Thomas wrote:
“At the meeting I had said I would be in favor of the look back option.
“After thinking about my stance, I really need to do more research to clearly understand what past boards voted on and what would be the best course of action to stay debt free and maintain the safest county to live in Illinois.
“Finding creative ways to stay in budget without cutting services would be the best way to balance the budget.
“Possible ideas I was thinking is no overtime, hire freeze as well as looking at possibly selling buildings or unused property.
“I’m new to the board and I need to do more research before I can make my decision.”
